THE STRAIN (Book Review)

by NewsBot on Jun.18, 2009, under Vampire News

THE STRAINIn THE STRAIN, the creator of PAN'S LABYRINTH, Guillermo del Toro, teams up with author Chuck Hogan to write a new kind of vampire tale. Going away from the sex and romance part of your typical vampire novel, THE STRAIN is a book more about un-deadly disease than monster myth. With the wretchedly detailed and lurid descriptions of blood and guts similar to that of Michael Crichton's and the scare factor, nightmare inducing power rivaling that of Stephen King's, del Toro and Hogan make THE STRAIN the next great vampire must-read. This novel will take what you thought you knew about bloodsuckers and turn it upside-down and inside-out, almost quite literally, while simultaneously making you cringe with horror and disallowing you to stop reading...

‘Thirst’ Trailer Provides Bite, Intense Vampire Action!

by NewsBot on Jun.17, 2009, under Vampire News

Focus Feature has released the official trailer for Park Chan-wook's highly anticipated vampire comedy/drama Thirst, which arrives in theaters July 31. The trailer is very representational of what you'll see, only it appears to be "action-packed." My advice to all of you who decide to see the film, down two Red Bulls and get ready for two and half hours of Park Chan-wook exposition, mixed with a taste of blood (oh yes, pun intended). The story finds Korea's leading man, Song Kang-ho (The Host), as a much-loved priest who becomes a vampire after a failed medical experiment; he becomes a tortured and depraved soul.

EXCL: Diggs Vamps Out for Dead of Night

by NewsBot on Mar.24, 2009, under Vampire News

The casting news is rolling out slowly for the Dylan Dog live-action film Dead of Night. Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), as it's been known for some time, is Dylan and, at the start of this month, it was revealed Sam Huntington is playing his sidekick (details). But let's focus on the supernatural element of the film for a brief moment, shall we?

ShockTillYouDrop.com learned actor Taye Diggs is now set to star opposite Routh. The actor, currently seen in Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, will play Night's leader of the vampires. An official confirmation, we're told, is forthcoming. This is Diggs' return to the genre after 1999's The House on Haunted Hill. Since then he has also starred in Equilibrium, with Christian Bale, and Chicago.

Make-up FX for Diggs' bloodsucking turn, as well as Huntington who is a member of the undead himself (in a different sorta way), are being handled by Drac Studios. The film is said to feature a range of beasties, from vampires to zombies to werewolves.

Dead of Night - based on the popular Italian comic books "Dylan Dog" by Tiziano Sclavi - is shooting in the New Orleans area. Expect to see more casting announcements here on Shock very soon!

Veteran TV writer Evan Charnov (Fearless) has been tapped to pen the screenplay for The Lost Boys 3, Warner Premiere’s next direct-to-disc sequel to the classic teen-vamp film from 1987. In addition, Corey Feldman has come on to executive produce and will also return once again as Edgar Frog. This film will actually focus on Feldman’s popular character. Corey Haim’s return as Sam Emerson is highly, highly unlikely at this point in time.
