The Shadows Are Not Yet Dark
by Chad Savage on Mar.24, 2009, under ChicagoVampire.com Updates
DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD : With Johnny Depp getting so much advance buzz for Public Enemies (Michael Mann’s summer movie for Universal), his upcoming projects are news. Now I’m told that Tim Burton may have to postpone the start date on his and Depp’s hotly anticipated Dark Shadows, their Warner Bros film version of the gothic TV series with a huge cult following. It was June, then August, and now maybe not even this fall.
First, any rumor that Burton may bail altogether is “definitely” not true, says my insider: “He loves the project”. But his helming of Alice In Wonderland for Disney — and people who’ve visited the set tell me it looks amazing — is demanding more time than originally planned. Now Burton is facing a hot delivery date for a March 5, 2010 release. And so he’s exploring pushing back the start date for Dark Shadows.

by Chad Savage on Mar.24, 2009, under ChicagoVampire.com Updates
If you haven’t already heard, IconsOfFright.com has a great article about the dumbing down of the American release of the fantastic vampire film Let The Right One In. Specifically, the subtitles. IOF has a side-by-side comparison of several scenes in which the subtitles have been shortened, dumbed down or outright changed from the theatrical release of the film.
If you’re already rented/purchased the film, all is not lost – the English dubbed version uses the original (correct) translation.

EXCL: Diggs Vamps Out for Dead of Night
by NewsBot on Mar.24, 2009, under Vampire News
ShockTillYouDrop.com learned actor Taye Diggs is now set to star opposite Routh. The actor, currently seen in Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, will play Night's leader of the vampires. An official confirmation, we're told, is forthcoming. This is Diggs' return to the genre after 1999's The House on Haunted Hill. Since then he has also starred in Equilibrium, with Christian Bale, and Chicago.
Make-up FX for Diggs' bloodsucking turn, as well as Huntington who is a member of the undead himself (in a different sorta way), are being handled by Drac Studios. The film is said to feature a range of beasties, from vampires to zombies to werewolves.
Dead of Night - based on the popular Italian comic books "Dylan Dog" by Tiziano Sclavi - is shooting in the New Orleans area. Expect to see more casting announcements here on Shock very soon!

Lost Boys 3
by Chad Savage on Mar.17, 2009, under Vampire News
Veteran TV writer Evan Charnov (Fearless) has been tapped to pen the screenplay for The Lost Boys 3, Warner Premiere’s next direct-to-disc sequel to the classic teen-vamp film from 1987. In addition, Corey Feldman has come on to executive produce and will also return once again as Edgar Frog. This film will actually focus on Feldman’s popular character. Corey Haim’s return as Sam Emerson is highly, highly unlikely at this point in time.

Making National Vampire
by Chad Savage on Mar.13, 2009, under ChicagoVampire.com Updates
National Vampire is a documentary about people living “the Vampire Lifestyle” all over the USA. Geoff Harkness is a Chicago-based documentarian. Following, he shares some details about how National Vampire came to be…
Making National Vampire
by Geoff Harkness
The idea for National Vampire came to me in a dream. In the dream, I was buying a six-pack of beer at a convenience store. The clerk — a vampire replete with a gleaming set of fangs — somehow knew that I was a filmmaker and told me, “You should make a documentary about us. We’re everywhere. Nationwide.” The next day, I Googled the web for vampires and happened upon Dnash, a fangmaker from Connecticut. I e-mailed and Dnash agreed to do an interview if I was ever in the neighborhood. As it happened, I was going to be in New York City in a few weeks and arranged a meeting. As luck would have it, Dnash had a client coming in the day of our interview. The client and her husband graciously agreed to let me shoot the fang fitting. National Vampire was born. I spent the whole day hanging out with Dnash, who turned out to be a funny, smart guy with a gift for gab. During an interview that lasted more than three hours, Dnash regaled me with stories and filled me in on the various subsets of the vampire culture: the role-playing gamers, the bondage and fetish crowd, the goth-music scene, the vampire tours, Halloween, blood drinkers. I knew it would be a great documentary — now I had to put it together. All of this occurred in December, 2002. At the time, I was living in Lawrence, Kansas and getting a master’s in sociology.
